April 20 – May 20
Constellation
Taurus is found in the Constellation Taurus spanning 30-60 degrees of the Zodiac. This Zodiac Sign was actually the first established among the ancient Mesopotamians, who named it the “Great Bull of Heaven.” Thus, the image of Taurus is one of a Bull, and there are many tales and myths surrounding the worshiping of the Bull in many ancient cultures. In Ancient Egypt, it was worshiped as Apis, who was the embodiment of the Egyptian deity Ptah (the creator god and patron of architects and craftsmen), and then later the embodiment of the Egyptian god Osiris (of fertility, the dead, the afterlife, resurrection, life, agriculture, and vegetation). In Hindu mythology, Nandi was the Bull who was the main carrier and principle follower of Shiva. In Ancient Rome, the Bull was considered a sacred animal to the God Neto/Neito, who was probably a God of War in ancient Iberian Peninsula. As we have discovered, the Bull has transcended time, and over the course of thousands of years has made its presence known and appreciated by millions upon millions of people. Someone who is found under Taurus is a person who can be just as stable and reliable as the Constellation itself.
Element
Taurus possesses the element of Earth. This element can be considered the foundation of all elements. It’s the basis for the other three (air, water, fire) and, hey, we even live on the planet Earth, which has the same name for a reason! As an Earth Sign, it’s immediately clear that they are practical by nature. They know how to plan, work hard putting that plan into action, and value the material things in life. They sometimes expect others to share their practical views and reasonable approaches to life with the ability of being solid and specific.
The element of Earth represents physical matter, such as our bodies, food, finances, and daily routines. Earth Signs can get stuck in their ways for long periods of time (like years!) and be too afraid to change their routine. If stuck in a challenging situation, they will stick to their ways that they know or are convinced will work, even if it makes them unhappy; stay stuck at an unsatisfying job just so it makes ends meet, or neglects their creativity or intelligence capabilities. To balance Earth, some Air elements may be beneficial. Air provides something a little more transparent, unstable, and fast, which will be helpful to shake the Earth Signs a little off balance to get them unstuck from hard habits, make changes to their daily routines or life without regrets, and to stop questioning the choices they’ve made in the past. It will be important to have their sense of purpose lucid and their feelings/emotions being sturdy.
Quality
There are 3 different Qualities of Expression (also known as Modes or Modalities): Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable. Taurus is the Earth Sign among the four Fixed Quality Zodiac Signs. While Cardinal Signs kick off the start of a season, the Fixed Quality Zodiac Signs are the embodiment of the season. For Taurus, it represents the power of Spring. Like the seasons, it is fixed meaning that it is stable, resolute, purposeful, and relentless. They are trustworthy and loyal with steadfast devotion and beliefs. They are the best friends that you can rely on to help you through the hard times. They are powerhouses with the stamina and endurance to follow things through. They are by nature able to focus and take their ideas into completion. This is a blessing in that Fixed Signs are determined, don’t give up easily, and are reliable. However, they can be so stuck in not wanting to change that they may miss out on chances or good opportunities.
Fixed signs are also very stubborn, which the other Zodiac Signs notice. Fixed Signs do not like change and may have a hard time with transitions of various kinds. They like things as they know them because they know that when they put their soul and heart into something they believe in, they know that they can achieve anything. Failure isn’t considered an option and they possess the gifts of endeavor, work integrity, and patience. For Taurus, they are loyal and hardworking and can be stubborn like all Fixed Zodiac Signs. While they can be inflexible, these Bulls are reliable with artistic vibes, which can overshadow their stubbornness.
Planet
The Planet that rules Taurus is Venus. When you think of Venus, you may think of the Goddess of Love, which is a good starting point. Venus does represent love and romance, but not only in a sexual/physical manner, but also platonic love and the unattainable ideal of love. This Planet represents the dominance of femininity along with our capacity to love and find the beauty in everything. Venus is one of pleasure (both emotionally and physically). It is when someone thinks with their heart, not with their mind through logic. This Planet of warmth and abundance can also bring attention to times when you may be dependent on others, food, or other sources of comfort and security. You may be “drunk on emotion” and be out of balance with mood swings and changing your mind (or rather, your heart) on things. Venus is special in that it governs two Zodiac Signs: Taurus (who is practical and physical by nature) and Libra (who is beautifully expressive and what we want to be seen as a reflection in other people). This conflict can be found deep in the meaning of Venus as these two signs can struggle cooperating with one another. Venus covers things from love, to moving with flexibility/ease, the ability to earn an income, and the value of our and others’ personalities. Venus is the Planet you want to look towards regarding companionship, a soul mate, or marriage. Some Astrologers are of the opinion that if Venus is badly damaged in your chart, it’s possible that you don’t feel as if you deserve to be loved and/or may not find the ability to be loved. But please don’t worry. Like most Planets that signal personal problems, you can work to help Venus be fixed to a degree!
House
Taurus rules the 2nd House in the Astrological Charts, which governs that of income and material possessions. This means both money/wealth and creature comforts/self-indulgent pleasures. It also represents your physical environment and material belongings. It covers what you can see, hear, smell, taste, and touch. By looking at the 2ndHouse, one can see how they assign value to themselves and the world surrounding them. On a basic level, you can look at the 2nd House to see how they are or could earn an income and build their self-esteem. For a celebrity example, you can look at the birth chart of American pop singer/dancer Britney Spears. If you look at her 2nd House, you can find the Planet Jupiter (of fortune, luck, and expansion). It’s well known that she over the years she’s sold over 100 million records worldwide and her net worth was approximately 70 million dollars, as of late 2021.
Personality
A Taurus is someone who harvests the fruits of labor. They stroll the Earth in their well-grounded and practical ways to find freedom and happiness. A Bull strives to be surrounded by beauty and love. In their hedonism, they tend to turn towards materialism and physical pleasures. That’s because a Taurus by nature have a heightened sense of touch. They are sensual, tactile, and reliable in that they are prepared to stand behind their choices and endure their decision’s path until they reach that climactic point of satisfaction. The Bull is conservative, stable, and form a perspective that is realistic. They are committed and tend to stick with projects until completion, even if it takes them years. This may come across as stubbornness, but actually it can be more along the lines of dedication, faithfulness, and a strong sense of obligation or duty. As a result, a Taurus tends to make a great employee in the workforce. This can also tie in with their tendency to be materialistic or overprotective, with their worldview shaped on the notion that society was founded on its love of wealth and money. The Bull carries traits such as loyalty and tenderness. However, they don’t like sudden changes, people guilting others, and criticism. Unfortunately, they can have a hard time letting go of negative emotions since they are somewhat dependent on others. You’ve probably heard the say “If you mess with the Bull, you’ll get the horns.” There is some level of truth to this. If you hurt them, while they are slow to anger, once they reach that point, they can see red and charge. However, despite these potential emotional challenges, they can still provide practical and reasonable perspectives in any unhealthy or messy situation.
Compatibility
Stereotypically, a Taurus may struggle finding compatibility with Air Signs, Aquarius, Gemini, and Libra. A Bull prefers a stable, secure, peaceful, and relaxing life. And they want to do that with a lifetime partner who will be as loyal with them as they are committed themselves. For example, a Libra needs the hills (ups) and valleys (downs) that come in life. They embrace the challenges and stumbling blocks that come with relationships and a Libra will help smooth out creases. In general, Air Signs tend to be quite social, which may prove to be too much for a Taurus at times.
Bulls may also have a hard time building strong connections with Fire Signs, including Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. Fire Signs tend to love both people and life in an outgoing and quite expressive way. By nature, they don’t want to be tied down with big life obligations including family and a home. Life for them is an exciting adventure that needs to be explored to the fullest! A Taurus, on the other hand, would rather take their time embracing life and others in small doses at a time. A Taurus enjoys sitting back, relaxing, smelling the blooming flowers, and observing the growing green grass around them. As a result, there may be a natural conflict of interest between the Bull and Fire Signs on what is the best way to experience life.
A Taurus may have better luck building a deep connection with Water Signs, Pisces, Cancer, and Scorpio. They would provide a good balance with the Bull’s Earth Element. A Taurus is quite sensual and love things that bring them pleasure. A Water Sign needs closeness and emotional intimacy. So a Taurus may provide the gentle touch that a Water Sign will build trust with and embrace. Typically, a Water Sign like Cancer and Taurus would have an extremely strong bond and trust between them since they have the same goals: a sense of home, family, and, ultimately, love.
The Bull would also have better luck with compatibility with its fellow Earth Signs, Virgo and Capricorn. They think similarly and have similar values. For example, a Taurus could create a project and provide motivation. And a Capricorn partner would drive the team through their hard work towards success and financial security. A Taurus may come across as lazier in comparison to a Capricorn, but the balance between work and play would provide the key to a secure, balanced partnership.
Bulls make great long-term partners and friends. Taurus men are caring and loving, patient, independent, reliable, and practical. They will be there for you when you need them, always! They prefer the “simple life” and for things to stay to stay the same. Their predictability and strength of consistency will support them as they always follow their heart. Any Taurus has the capability to always be reliable in being there for people they care about and have a sturdy love that can be admired.
Okey-dokey! I think that just about covers the basics of a Taurus! As is routine, I placed the brief, overview chart for this fun Zodiac Sign:
I had a bunch of fun learning more about Taurus and all it encompasses. I hope you enjoyed your time, too! So, please tell me: Are you a Taurus? If so, do you think there are characteristics that are the same/different from you? If you’re not a Taurus, do you know someone who is? How do they compare to this Taurus generalization? I thank you so much for taking the time to read this post and I hope you will stick around to read more into what I discover and learn!
