Astrology Dice 101

A Beginner’s Guide

Did you know that another way to practice Astrology is to use dice?  Of course, they are not like your typical 6-sided dice.  Instead, they are a set of 3 12-sided dice: 1 has Planet Symbols, 1 has Zodiac Sign Symbols, and 1 has House Numbers.   With these dice, you can ask questions and they can provide you some guidance into answering them.  They can be a lot of fun and an easy, quick way to do some divination or inner contemplation!  It’s also a great way for you to learn the meanings behind Planets, Zodiac Signs, and the Houses! So let’s have some fun in learning what each of these die do and how you can read these dice!

    Asking Your Question & Casting Your Dice

    If you have one, lay out a cloth on your table.  This can be the same cloth you use for other magic practices, such as Tarot, Runes, or Pendulums.  Otherwise, even a nice napkin or small blanket will suffice.  You want to provide a clean space for your dice to be cast upon.  Once the space is set up, hold the dice in your hand and think of one question.  It should not be a yes/no question.  Astrology Dice provide more detailed information that cannot simply be interpreted as a yes/no answer.  When you are ready, cast your dice onto your cloth to see what the Planets and Stars have to say to you. Some people take note of how far the dice roll on the mat. For example, if a particular die rolled far away from you, maybe that means that die’s meaning is “hard to reach” or “far away from you presently.” Other dice users simply regroup the dice, not minding the distance of the dice roll.

    How to Read Your Dice

    The best approach I found in learning how to Astrology Dice is to think of a theater performance.  Your question is the stage and each die represents a major element: the Planets Die represents the main actor, the Zodiac Die represents the actor’s costume, and the Houses Die represents the scene where the actor performs on stage.  If you think in these 3 steps, one can interpret the dice so you can find guidance on answering your question.  So let’s look at these 3 steps in Reading the dice!  Below I will provide brief descriptions with charts that provide the dice meanings.  

    The Planets = Subject (Main Actor)

    The Planets Die shows the situation as the main actor on the stage.  It reflects the subject that is on your mind.  This main topic can be about your career, finances, or other important life scenarios.  Without the main actor, there will be no performance.  The main actor is the subject of the Reading.  The other two dice will provide further details.

    The Zodiac Sign = Feelings (Costume)

    The Zodiac Die is like the Costume the main actor wears when they perform on stage.  Much like how a costume can express characteristics about the actor, the Zodiac Die shows you the feelings or thoughts about the subject.  For example, it can be joy, sadness, guilt, love, or other subconscious emotions.  Now that you have the subject and feelings at hand, it’s time to move on to the last die for the final piece of information.

    The Houses = Area of Life (Scene)

    The Houses Die represents the stage backdrop or scene where your actor stands.  When Reading, the setting shows which area of your life is being impacted by the subject.  For example, the actor could have the backdrop of the 4thHouse, which represents the home and family.  

    Example Readings

    Below are a couple example readings to give you an idea of how all the components can come together to give you guidance on an answer:

    Question: “Please give me guidance about my career?“

    Planet (Subject): Saturn (responsibilities, hard work, discipline, ambitions)

    Zodiac (Feeling): Sagittarius (go for it, expand, optimism, find your purpose)

    House (Area of Life): 2 (Resources: sudden change to finances, poverty/wealth)

    Interpretation: Am I satisfied with my current work?  If Yes: I need to buckle down and work hard with the responsibilities given to me (Saturn).  By going for it (Sagittarius), I might expect positive financial changes (House 2), which is what I am striving for.  If No: Now may be the time to do something that I feel is my calling or my purpose (Sagittarius), which may suddenly and quickly negatively impact my finances or resources (House 2).  However, with discipline and hard work, I can achieve my career ambitions (Saturn), which is what I really want.

    Question: “What is something that I am unaware of that I need to address?“

    Planet (Subject): Jupiter (luck, growth, expansion, hope)

    Zodiac (Feeling): Aquarius (introspection, unpredictable future, anxiety)

    House (Area of Life): 5 (Self-Expression: where creative things born, hobbies, joy)

    Interpretation: I want to maintain hope in experiencing growth and expansion (Jupiter) when it comes to my creative hobbies or interests that bring me joy (House 5).  But deep down, I may subconsciously be experiencing some doubt or anxiety since my future is uncertain or unpredictable (Aquarius).  This is something I may need to think about and work on improving.

    Question: “My friend’s partner and her always fight… What does their relationship hold?“

    Planet (Subject): Venus (relationships, love, attraction, self-worth)

    Zodiac (Feeling): Scorpio (transformation, honesty, secret emotions)

    House (Area of Life): 8 (Birth, Death, Rebirth: transformation, time for ending/closure)

    Interpretation: It’s no coincidence that the Planet Venus of love and relationships are the subject of the answer.  It plays the primary role in the question.  If things do not change, it may be a time for the relationship to end or come to a close (House 8).  My friend may hold secret emotions or need to look inward with emotional honesty (Scorpio).  She may already know deep down that there’s a need or time for transformation (Scorpio & House 8). Of course, if things changed or are addressed, the outcome may be very different.

    Conclusion

    When it comes to Readings, I always suggest to follow your instinct or intuition. For example, if you rolled a Planet but you feel its meaning is more accurately described as something else than what I’ve listed as possible meanings, then go with that! (Of course, what you feel should still in the realm/area of the possible meanings listed and not completely different or “off base.”)
