Your Tarot Birth Cards

Tarot can provide us with endless information.  It can help guide us to an answer we seek.  It can provide us a new perspective of looking at things.  It can assist us with inner-contemplation and meditation.  It is a tool that can support us finding the knowledge, details, and potentials that lie within us using our own personal Magic.  And did you know that when we are born, each of us have Tarot Birth Cards?  In this post, I hope to teach you, my friends, about what Tarot Birth Cards are and how we can calculate our date of birth to determine what Cards were destined for us.

    What are Tarot Birth Cards?

When we are born, our Soul carries innate, constant facets.  These are not describing our personal moods, life events, or states of being.  Rather, they give us insight about the energy present during the time of our birth.  These qualities never change in our lifetime, no matter what we go through.  They are strengths that surpass any challenge or obstacle that we may face.  They are unique and personal.  Not everyone carries these same traits.  Our Soul carries messages that we can look back towards for guidance and spiritual, emotional, and mental renewal.  By employing basic math using our date of birth, we can determine which Birth Cards and, thus, which facets we possess within us.  Most of us carry 2 Tarot Birth Cards (and a few carry 3 Cards!).  So when you learn of your cards, keep them close in your mind and heart so you can look back at them when you need insight, guidance, inspiration, motivation, or a simple reminder of the Magic you carry within you.

Now that we know of the concept of Tarot Birth Cards, let’s begin the steps to discovering your personal Birth Card!  To start, Tarot Birth Cards only involve the Major Arcana in a Tarot Deck.  As a result, we need to remember what they are so when you get your result, you can quickly reference which Major Arcana card is your Birth Card.  So here we go!

    Tarot Major Arcana

Birth Cards are composed of the Major Arcana since they are of great significance.  (The Minor Arcana with the 4 Suits are not involved.)  As you may remember, there are 78 Cards in a Tarot Deck.  Among those, there are 22 Major Arcana Cards (numbered 0 – 21).  These Trump Cards are the most powerful cards and are considered the core of the entire Tarot Deck.  They represent main archetypal life themes or situations we all face in our life journey.  They show life lessons and karmic influences.  They tell a story of one’s Soul and spiritual evolution into individuation and enlightenment.  Each carry their own specific messages, concepts, and lessons to meditate and contemplate over.  Below are reference charts of the Major Arcana Cards with their Card Meanings, Personal Qualities, and Wisdom Messages.  Hopefully this will make it easier for you to learn about your Tarot Birth Cards once you do the calculations:

    Calculating Your Tarot Birth Cards

It’s ok; take a deep breath.  It’s not going to be that hard.  All you need to know is your monthday, and year of birth.  With those numbers, we do some basic math that will give us a number.  With that number, it will tell us which Major Arcana is your Birth Card.  In essence, your birth date will reveal the special qualities you carry.  So here we go!

Step 1: Group Your Birth Date

Break up your birth date into 4 groups, with 2 numbers each:

    MM + DD + YY + YY

    Examples:
    May 21, 2012 (05/21/2012) –> 05 + 21 + 20 +12
    March 7, 1993 (03/07/1993) –> 03 + 07 + 19 +93
    January 16, 1991 (01/16/1991) –> 01 + 16 + 19 + 91

    Step 2: Add the Numbers

Now that you have your 4 sets, add those numbers together to get one total number.

    Examples:
    May 21, 2012 (05/21/2012) –> 05 + 21 + 20 +12 = 58
    March 7, 1993 (03/07/1993) –> 03 + 07 + 19 +93 = 122
    January 16, 1991 (01/16/1991) –> 01 + 16 + 19 + 91 = 127

    Step 3: You Have a 2-Digit Result

If your total is a 2-digit number, then follow these steps.  If you’re result consists of 3 digits, then please skip to Step 4.

    (1) Tarot Birth Card #1

Add the 2 digits in your result together.  The resulting number is your 1st Tarot Birth Card!  So look at the list of Major Arcana to see which Tarot Card correlates with your number!

    Example:
    May 21, 2012 (05/21/2012) –> 05 + 21 + 20 +12 = 58
    –> 5 + 8 = 13 [Death]

    (2) Tarot Birth Card #2

Take the number you got for your 1st Tarot Birth Card, and reduce it to a single number.  Do this by adding the two digits.  This final number reveals your 2nd Tarot Birth Card!  So see which Card is that number!

    Example:
    May 21, 2012 (05/21/2012) –> 05 + 21 + 20 +12 = 58
    –> 5 + 8 = 13 –> 1 + 3 = 4 [The Emperor]

    Step 4: You Have a 3-Digit Result

If your total is a 3-digit number, then follow these steps.  If your result consists of 2 digits, then please go back to Step 3.

    (1) Tarot Birth Card #1

With your previous result, add the 1st 2 digits with the 3rd one.  This will reveal your 1st Tarot Birth Card, so look and see which Major Arcana Card holds that same number!

    Example:
    March 7, 1993 (03/07/1993) –> 03 + 07 + 19 +93 = 122
    –> 12 + 2 = 14 [Temperance]

**NOTE: I recently had a rare case where a person’s number was above 21. (The Major Arcana are only numbered 0-21 and here my person had 22.) So in this case, the person’s Birth Card would 0. The Fool. But I would continue with 2nd Birth Card as usual with her number being 22.**

    (2) Tarot Birth Card #2

Take the number you got for your 1st Tarot Birth Card, and reduce it to a single number.  Do this by adding the two digits.  This final number reveals your 2nd Tarot Birth Card!  So go see which Major Arcana Card correlates that number!

    Example:
    March 7, 1993 (03/07/1993) –> 03 + 07 + 19 +93 = 122
    –> 12 + 2 = 14 –> 1 + 4 = 5 [The Hierophant]

Step 5: Exception for 3 Birth Cards

If you complete Step 3/Step 4 and get the number 19, then you are a special exception to the rule!  If you get 19, then instead of 2 Tarot Birth Card you actually get 3!  These 3 Cards are by default the following:

19 [The Sun], 10 [Wheel of Fortune], 1 [The Magician]

    Example:
    January 16, 1991 (01/16/1991) –> 01 + 16 + 19 + 91 = 127
    –> 12 + 7 = 19 [The Sun, Wheel of Fortune, Magician]

And there you have it!  When you are discovering your cards, I suggest looking online to learn all you can about them.  Look for the meanings and messages they carry.  See those qualities and characteristics within yourself.  You naturally possess them, and you can rely on them during difficult times.  They can also guide you during your life journey and be helpful reminders on the Magical strength you have inside you.

So tell me, what are your Tarot Birth Cards?  Do you see those facets within yourself or in your life experiences?  Let me know in the comments!  Thank you for taking the time to read this post and I hope you had some fun.  I look forward to learning and sharing more in the future!  Until next time, my friends!
