    Constellation

You can find the Sagittarius Constellation in sky spanning the 240-270th degrees.  The image of this Constellation is that of an Archer (that’s why sometimes you see a bow/arrow as a symbol of Sagittarius).  Specifically, it is typically that of a Centaur (half man, half horse) Archer named Chiron.   In ancient Greek mythology, he was known as the “most just and wisest of all the Centaurs” and was admired for his kindness, peaceful personality, intelligence, and nature of nurturing the youth.  Chiron was a notable mentor, with one of his most famous students being Achilles, a legendary Trojan War hero.  He taught the child Achilles archery among other things.  One day, Chiron was taking care of Achilles when another Greek hero, Hercules, came to visit.  Chiron was looking through Hercules’ weapons when an arrow that was dipped with the poisonous Lernaean hydra venom fell onto Chiron’s left foot.  Despite attempts in saving his life, it was too much.  Achilles sobbed as Chiron passed away into the stars that would become the Sagittarius constellation.  My dear Sagittarius Archers who fall under this sign, you are truly someone to be admired!

    Element

Sagittarius carries the element of Fire.  This element is special, for it is the one that shines with the light it naturally creates.  Fire symbolizes energy that is incomparable to the other Elements.  Zodiac Signs with this Element have this fiery energy and use it solely on themselves unless someone they care about asks for their help or advice.  Of the 3 Fire Signs, Sagittarius is considered by many as the most generous.  The Centaur Archer falls behind the other two in the Astrological calendar, so with their good intentions and strong life philosophy, they have already learned a lot from those before them.  Fire Signs, however, often need to learn to value and nurture their emotional side.  Some consider Fire Signs as difficult since they may need to be trained for deeper understanding, sympathy, and compassion for others when it comes much more naturally with other the other Elemental Signs.  But Fire Signs do care!  In fact, they tend to give more than they should to others who didn’t ask for anything initially.  However, this can cause some basic problems in relationships, so they must be careful and socially aware.

Fire is a powerful masculine element that can easily overpower the feminine energy within all of us.  It’s like in real life where too much Fire can cause Earth to burn and Water to evaporate.  Fire Signs must not neglect their feminine traits for as the saying goes: “A life without love is not worth living.”  If Fire Signs forget to acknowledge and respect their emotional needs, they will not only be not as happy, but it can lead to negative outcomes in their relationships with feminine individuals, such as women, in their lives.  To better balance these Fire Zodiac Signs, they must learn to embrace inner peace and calm, especially during the difficult times.  They need to try to keep in mind that sometimes a passive approach is just as effective (or even better!) than an active one, given the circumstances.  Many Fire Signs benefit from therapy since they tend to not be aware and forget to save or recycle some of their energy, especially if the Fire Sign gets excited with a new opportunity or when they get passionate over something new.

    Quality

There are 3 different Qualities of Expression (also known as Modes or Modalities):  Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable.  Sagittarius is the Fire Sign among the four Mutable Quality Zodiac Signs.  While Cardinal Signs kick off the start of a season and the Fixed Signs are the embodiment of the season, Mutable Zodiac Signs symbolize the represent the end of a season.  They also help us transition into the next upcoming season.  For Sagittarius, it is the end of Autumn.  For Mutable Signs, they remind us to reflect on what we’ve experienced from this past period, learn from it, and then start to look forward for the transition process for it’s time to move on.  Since these Signs represent a time of transition, they are naturally adaptable and flexible when other Signs are innately not so much.  For transitions, you have the traits of flexibility and open-mindedness to comprehend situations from many different perspectives.  Mutable Signs know that you can’t stop transitions so it’s best to “go with the flow.”

They are deep thinkers, philosophers, that hold no judgment until they understand all the information.  Even after knowing all the angles, their final judgment would not be mean.  They hold opinions even if they aren’t as decisive as other Signs.  Mutable Signs just need to take their time to decide since they are so careful and are even willing to change their mind after deciding. As a result, on bad days they can come across as “wishy-washy” since they take their time processing information.  These Zodiac Signs are experts of multi-tasking and are commonly moving smoothly between several situations, projects, or relationships.  This ability allows them to excel in many areas.  They have a great sense of intuition and strong degree of awareness about how to change their lives and how to finish things to move on to the next.  They can finish tasks easily and even if they are consumed in professional goals, they are still fun to be around with their relaxed aura.  At the same time, they value freedom, which gives the ability to explore their many options or possibilities.  However!  Since they have their hands on many things at once, their focus and attention are split among them all.  As a result, they can come across as “scattered” to the other Signs and Mutable Zodiac Signs would greatly benefit in how to provide complete focus.  A Sagittarius is good at philosophy and has a special talent for being able to see “the big picture” of any situation.  These Centaur Archers also have a gift for inspiring others, which benefit the other Zodiac Signs.

    Planet

Sagittarius is governed by the Planet Jupiter.  This Planet is one of the most beneficial Planets, for its purpose is to give us meaning or purpose in our own lives.  As large as this Planet is, it shows that moving forward into the future is inevitable with light, faith/spirituality, hope, fortune, blessings on our side.  Jupiter is the largest Planet in our Solar System, and its humongous size is symbolic of the boundary that we can visibly see, because beyond that is Saturn and the other outer Planets, who go beyond what we can see directly.  Jupiter represents many things, including a teacher, distance, travel, religion, philosophy, moral, protection, and blood.  Like what it represents, Jupiter teaches us and protects us.  For example, if you see Jupiter in your chart in Capricorn, you may need to remember that when you’re too stuck in your ways, you are unable to make progress.  If Jupiter is in Gemini, you may need to remember to make connections between your mental endeavors and your reality.  One could view Jupiter as the wise teacher that says, “With your life philosophy and optimism, you can make the best possible future.”  Of course, it may be pricey or not smooth sailing, but it is still possible.  If you look at your birth chart, try to locate where Jupiter lies… it could very well point to your mission in life, your true calling, your purpose or, in the very least, a very important aspect of your life to which you need to pay close attention.  In short, Jupiter is your guide, your guru, your teacher into widening our perspectives and consciousness as large as the Planet itself and do so through the exciting adventure of moving forward with knowledge, acceptance, and satisfaction.

    House

Sagittarius can be found ruling the 9th House in Astrology, which represents philosophy and the expansion of the higher mind.  It can show optimism, inspiration, luck, religion, morals and ethics, and even higher education such as universities.  This House can also represent things related to adventure or journeys, such as foreign languages, travelling long-distance, and things international.  On a lesser note, it could represent things such as broadcasting, publishing, gambling, and risks.  The Archer’s House is one of exploration that involves personal evolution and inherent curiosity.  An example of someone with a strong 9th House representation could be Scottish-American singer, songwriter, and actor David Byrne.  He is considered gifted in the music industry, who has made audacious strides in the field and is known for being shameless and bold in his art.  It wouldn’t be too surprising for an Astrologist to find the Sun, Venus, and Jupiter all resting in his 9th House.

    Personality

These Archers are curious yet full of energy and can, thus, be considered the wanderers of the Zodiac.  As a result, they seem to always have that longing feeling that something is missing, can experience a bit of an existential crisis, and feel the need to travel the Earth so discover and learn the meaning of life.  As wanderers, they will need complete freedom to have adventures physically and spiritually.  A Sagittarius is open-minded and philosophical by nature, so they tend to enjoy exploring various philosophies, cultures, and traditions.  They are prepared for any curveballs thrown at them and go through life as an optimistic and enthusiastic extrovert.  There are no limits for this Zodiac Sign, and they possess both a natural curiosity about their world around them plus a naturally great sense of humor.  A Sagittarius can be mentally busy with visions and ideas, and can transform them into actions when they find their stable ground.  They communicate their distinct intentions and they highly value honesty.  In fact, an Archer can be too honest and unintentionally hurt the feelings of others if they’re not careful.  As a result, a Sagittarius should practice and learn to express their valid opinions in a tolerant, sensitive, and more socially acceptable manner.  Nevertheless, these Archers are healers and teachers, and are prepared to go the extra mile for their friends.  They’ll sometimes hide their pain behind a laugh or a smile if it means that their friend doesn’t have to experience similar pain.  Any Zodiac Sign would greatly benefit from having a Sagittarius friend and seeing what they are truly all about!

    Compatibility

Typically, a Sagittarius has great compatibility with Air Signs, Aquarius, Gemini, and Libra.  When it comes to sexuality, a Sagittarius and Air Signs tend to approach their intimate relationships with lightheartedness, laughs, creativity, and fun.  So they will be able to explore what works for both of them and then understand each other’s personal desires and needs.  Air Signs and an Archer will have great trust compatibility simply because a Sagittarius cannot tell a lie even if they wanted.  And an Air Sign like a Gemini may be able to lie so well that they may not even realize that they themselves are lying!  In the end, trust will be build based on fun and childlike play, and yet carry a solid base of mutual respect.

Usually, a Sagittarius will also have a more natural compatibility with fellow Fire Signs, Aries, and Leo.  Fire Signs will provide the initial spark to the relationship and a Sagittarius can carry and expand it to all directions.  A Sagittarius can carry as much passion as any other Fire Sign, so their sexual and intimate relationship compatibility between one another will be more natural and equal.

A Sagittarius may have less luck regarding overall compatibility with Water Signs, Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces.  Water Signs tend to need emotional security and deep emotional intimacy.  They typically have the end goal of wanting a traditional home and a family.  An Archer, on the other hand, strives to embrace their freedom.  They don’t want to be tied down and can lack the sensitivity needed to discuss personal emotional thoughts and feelings to a Water Sign.

Also, a Sagittarius may have more difficulty with Earth Signs, Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn.  Earth Signs are practical and like to break things down into smaller chunks.  Earth Signs typically like to relax and enjoy the, well, Earth around them, such as smelling the roses and watching the birds fly by.  A Sagittarius is the Zodiac Sign adventurer in that they love to be on the go and explore the world.  They love people and want to have fun exploring with little to no obligations holding them back.

Sagittarius Men are curious and love to discover and explore new things, which makes them quite adventurous.  As a result, they love to meet new people and travel.  They are very dedicated and positively passionate about their interests.  With a great sense of humor, a Sagittarius Man is also known to be generous.  Any Sagittarius is truly a special Sign that loves life and learning about the world around them.  There is something everyone can learn from this great Archer!

*sigh*  I think that brings our discovery of Sagittarius to a close, sadly.  As you probably expected, below is the overview chart for you to reference, just in case.  I hope you find this useful!

Are you a fiery Archer or do you know someone who is a Sagittarius?  What do you think about these characteristics overall and how do they compare/contrast with your or the Sagittarius you know?  Are there any you admire and want to implement in your life?  Are there any that make you wonder if you’d struggle regarding compatibility?  As I’m sure you’ve gathered by now, there’s a high likelihood that you or the Archer you know does not fit this stereotypical description.  That is ok!  This is merely a starting point to get yourselves familiar with the Zodiac Sign.  From there, you can start building your or another person’s personality when you get to know other important factors, such as their Moon Sign, Rising Sun Sign, and more!  Well, we only have one more Astrology Zodiac Sign left to cover: Capricorn!  The end is near and I’m curious as to what we’ll learn from this upcoming Zodiac Sun Sign.  I am excited about learning more with you soon!

Success usually comes to those who are too busy looking for it.”
