    Constellation

The Capricorn Zodiac comes from the Capricornus constellation, that is the horned Goat, which lies on the celestial longitude between the 270-300th degree of the Zodiac.  It’s the 10th Zodiac Sign and, thus, lies in House 10.  The Constellation often appears in the image of a sea goat, basically, a goat with a long fish tail.  Very cute, if you ask me!    There may be some connection to Enki, who is the Sumerian god of waters, wisdom, intelligence, magic, and creation who also has the upper body of a goat and a lower body of a fish.  If you are born between December 22 – January 19, congratulations!  You are an adorable goat mermaid!

    Element

Capricorn possesses the element of Earth.  This element can be considered the foundation of all elements.  It’s the basis for the other three (Air, Water, Fire) and, hey, we even live on the planet Earth, which has the same name for a reason!  As an Earth Sign, it’s immediately clear that they are practical by nature.  They know how to plan, work hard putting that plan into action, and value the material things in life.  They sometimes expect others to share their practical views and reasonable approaches to life with the ability of being solid and specific.

The element of Earth represents physical matter, such as our bodies, food, finances, and daily routines.  Earth Signs can get stuck in their ways for long periods of time (like years!) and can be too afraid to change their routine.  If stuck in a challenging situation, they will stick to their ways that they know or are convinced will work, even if it makes them unhappy. They may stay stuck at an unsatisfying job just so it makes ends meet, or neglect their creativity or intelligence capabilities.  To balance Earth, some Air elements may be beneficial.  Air provides something a little more transparent, unstable, and fast, which will be helpful to shake the Earth Signs a little off balance to get them unstuck from hard habits, make changes to their daily routines or life without regrets, and to stop questioning the choices they’ve made in the past.  It will be important to have their sense of purpose lucid and their feelings/emotions being sturdy.

    Quality

There are 3 different Qualities of Expression (also known as Modes or Modalities):  Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable.  Capricorn is the Earth Sign among the Cardinal Quality Zodiac Signs, which represents the beginning of a new season.  Capricorn’s Cardinal Quality is the announcement for the arrival of Winter.  Since Cardinal Signs kick off the beginning of a new season, these Zodiac tend to be leaders with ideas and ambition.  Cardinal Signs are oftentimes unafraid to start new cycles or new periods in life, whether that’s in their personal or professional life.  However, while they get inspired and have the drive to start things, they may become burnt out or lack the energy to follow through their long-term goals to the very end.

A person with Cardinal Signs in their chart indicates someone who tends to be “go, go, go” and don’t always take the rest they need to keep going.  Capricorn, as the Cardinal Earth Sign, is determined and driven to gain status.  Capricorns have a reputation for being cold, mean, or know-it-alls, but they are just protective of their boundaries and energy.  Even if they are one of the most stubborn Signs, at their basic core, they are sensitive who feel emotions deeply, which is evident as having the “water part” of the Earth (I mean, look at those cute goat fish tails!)

    Planet

Capricorn is ruled by the mysterious, yet most beautiful planet, Saturn.  This planet has many meanings and symbols.  It can represent personal and external boundaries.  Saturn shows that when a person is in a difficult situation, they may be unable to defend themselves or will have to build an emotional/mental wall separating them from the outside world.  It’s a planet of restrictions while Saturn clearly shows us the right path even if we deny it.  Only when Saturn supports us will we finally be free from the boundary between our true self and society.  Saturn also represents time, such as planning, scheduling, and hard work.  Saturn reminds us of regulations and obligations, and while we cannot turn away from it, we can hope for the best, accept it, embrace it, and dive right in.

    House

Capricorn can be found in the 10th House, which is of public image and career.  Typically, it can be found at the top or highest point in a birth chart.  The Midheaven (a.k.a. MC) is the border or cusp of the 10th House and astrologers use that to indicate one’s career path/trajectory, societal contributions, or ultimate purpose.  For example, Mike Tyson was a professional heavyweight boxer, and he has Mars (the planet of momentum and aggression) in birth chart’s 10th House.  The 10th House also governs structures, discipline, rules, tradition, fathers/fatherhood, and our relationship with authority figures.  It can also govern things such as honors/awards, fame, and achievements.  Lastly, it governs how we present ourselves to the world.

    Personality

A Capricorn is someone who symbolizes responsibility and time.  They can naturally come across as serious and be traditional.  They are organized, hard workers who contain strong internal independence, which allows them to make progress in both their professional and personal lives.  They have a strong sense of self-control and are great leaders.  They know how to plan and act while learning from their mistakes along the way.  They will get to the top due to their expertise and experiences.  However, this can make the Goats workaholics and become “stiff” in being unable to budge from their routine or change their minds on something, such as a different perspective or stage in a relationship.  They tend to put their viewpoints onto others, either out of fear of those who are too different from their personal character or because they think others will genuinely benefit.  Unfortunately, this can make other Signs view a Capricorn as a “know-it-all” and condescending.  While Capricorns are practical and responsible by nature, they can also come across as distant, cold, or unforgiving.  This Zodiac Sign also tends to look in the past and feel guilty over past decisions.  This can also be reflected in their internal fear of facing personal secrets or inner demons, but they don’t run away.  These Goats are intelligent, dependable, loyal, and feel strong connections to those dear to them.  Anyone would benefit from getting know and becoming friends with a Capricorn!

    Compatibility

Capricorns have the great compatibility chances with the Water Signs: Pisces, Cancer, and Scorpio.  The Water Signs bring the emotions and nurturing compassion for Capricorns to feel loved and help bring personal meaning to their lives.  Capricorns also have the best compatibility with their fellow Earth Signs: Taurus and Virgo.  They think and feel similarly so there’s an easier sense of understanding.

Capricorns can work with Air Signs, Aquarius, Gemini, and Libra, but the Air Element qualities may knock Capricorns off balance and away from their comfort zone.  Air Signs may not be nearly as committed in things and move in life quickly and seemingly rambunctiously in comparison.  However, maybe an Air Sign friend would benefit a Capricorn in leading a more balanced life overall!  When it comes to Fire Signs, Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius… Unfortunately, they tend to have bad compatibility with Capricorns.  That being said, they can still be friends.

Stereotypically, the Fire Signs can frustrate Capricorns with their traits, for those personalities seem to clash with the way a Capricorn would naturally think and do things.  Fire Signs typically outwardly express strong emotions, which can come across as too intense and dramatic for practical Capricorns.  Of course, anything is possible!

Men of this Sign, like most Capricorns, are self-controlled, self-motivated, focused, organized, and have a lot of drive.  When they have goals, they know how to reach them and will help you stay focused and will push you on reaching your own goals.  They make a great partner in a relationship for they are caring, loving, and loyal.  While reserved by nature, any Capricorn can be a good friend since they value stability, are certain and diligent, and have a striking sense of humor!
